Best of Brad Pitt
It's hard to believe it's been nearly 20 years since Brad Pitt's scene-stealing turn in Thelma & Louise as the hot young stud who piques the interest of Geena Davis. After Thelma, he could have just faded away as another good-looking guy with little to offer beyond six-pack abs. But rather than skate by on looks, Pitt pushed his hunky image, taking on challenging, darker roles and working with some of the best actors and directors in the business. In doing so, he's developed into a strong actor with an impressive filmography. Now, as Inglourious Basterds hits theaters, here's a look back at the 10 best Brad Pitt movies and performances

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

Reteaming with Fincher a third time, Pitt plays a man who ages in reverse. Frequently buried under makeup and special effects, Pitt isn't content to let the technical wizardry dominate the performance, instead giving a sharply observed turn that celebrates his sense of wonder with the world around him while occasionally registering the sadness of his predicament. The result was Pitt's second Oscar nomination and first for Best Actor.

Burn After Reading (2008)

Forget the world's sexiest man, how about Pitt as a complete doofus? In his funniest role to date, Pitt plays a bumbling physical trainer who gets mixed up with a government conspiracy and finds himself in way over his head. His exchanges with co-star John Malkovich—“I am merely a good Samaritan”--are pure hilarity, as is his rulin’ haircut.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)
submitted by lodycarlos [5 months ago]
The least financially successful of Brad Pitt's starring roles--it grossed only $3.9 million--it nonetheless won critical acclaim and has tallied a solid 7.7 among IMDB users. Playing the legendary train robber and tabloid king--something Pitt knows a thing or two about--the actor exudes charisma but doesn't shy away from the character's rampant paranoia and psychotic tendencies. Though co-star Casey Affleck earned most of the awards attention, Pitt did nab a Best Actor prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Babel (2006)

Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Best Picture nominee features Pitt as an American touring Morocco with his wife. As a bickering, then frantic husband desperately trying to save his wife's life in foreign surroundings, Pitt gives his first truly great--and still best--performance, cutting deep to register his character's ragged desperation. Ironically, his standout role was overlooked by the Academy.

Snatch (2000)

Taking his cue from Director Guy Ritchie, whose diamond crime film is a frenzy of rip-roaring action, stylized violence and frenetic humor, Pitt affects an outrageous accent as an Irish bare-knuckle-boxing mama's boy. Pitt has a blast running with the character and playing it for every humorous angle imaginable, and his enthusiasm is infectious.

Fight Club (1999)

Working again with Fincher, Pitt starred as Tyler Durden, the man who introduces co-star Edward Norton to Fight Club. Not only did the enormously popular film give Pitt plenty of time to go shirtless, it also provided him with a series of memorable one liners—from “The first rule of fight club is: You do not talk about Fight Club” to “You’re not your f---ing khakis—that he delivers with considerable panache.

Terry Gilliam directed this sci-fi mystery about a convict (Bruce Willis) sent back in time to gather information about the man-made virus that wiped out most of the human population on the planet. As a mental patient who befriends Willis, Pitt takes crazy to the extreme. The Academy awarded his vivid performance by giving Pitt the first Oscar nomination of his career.

Se7en (1995)

In his first collaboration with Director David Fincher, Pitt played a hotheaded cop opposite cool Morgan Freeman in this highly influential thriller. Though Freeman provides the film’s gravitas, Pitt scores as well, registering deep feeling for his wife (Gwyneth Paltrow) as he struggles to maintain his humor and humanity amidst the city’s grinding soullessness._poster.jpg)

Interview with the Vampire (1994)
submitted by lodycarlos [5 months ago]
More than a decade before Twilight, "True Blood" and others made vampires hot, Pitt continued his move toward superstardom by starring in the adaptation of Anne Rice's bestseller opposite Tom Cruise. The film is still divisive, but Pitt is mostly successful in expressing Louis' inner turmoil as a person who makes unwise decisions he comes to regret.
