Johnny Depp's Movies
Johnny Depp is considered one of the most unique and versatile actors in Hollywood. Over the years he has demonstrated an interest in tackling some of the toughest and most controversial characters in cinema. He has also demonstrated an ability to do this successfully, displaying different sides of himself and attracting the attention of a wide fan base.
On going reward in progress

Nick Of Time
ohnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood) stars as an average guy whose wife has just recently died. One day on the way home, Depp and his daughter are kidnapped by two people, one of them being Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter, The Dead Zone). They tell him that his daughter will die if he doesn't kill a certain person. He soon finds out that this person is the Governor of his state. They give him a gun and tell him that if she's not dead by a certain time his daughter is dead. This is a great premise for a suspense movie and is carried out very well. The great Charles S. Dutton (Rudy, Mimic) plays a shoe-shiner who helps Depp. Depp is solid as the father in a role that's different from a lot of his earlier roles. The always excellent Walken is, as usual, awesome as the bad guy, a role I always love to see him in. The film keeps you going, by offering a couple of nice twists. Ignore the reviews and rent this movie.

Blow
This is one of the greatest movies that Depp was ever a part of and this time he plays a role on the other side of crime. He’s almost single-handedly responsible for enlarging the cocaine market in the United States. What’s interesting is that we get to see the entire background of what made him who he is and how he struggles with that in spite of his motivation to continue on in this line of business. Depp portrays this well and the movie succeeds as a result.

Secret Window
Eccentric author Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp) finds his life spiraling out of control. With a drinking problem and a cigarette habit he can't shake, Mort can barely function when his wife (Maria Bello) leaves him and he abandons his work. In the midst of his anguish, a deranged man, John Shooter, (John Turturro) appears at Mort's New York cabin, claiming that Mort has plagiarized one of his stories. As his wife pushes Mort to finalize their divorce and Shooter systematically destroys his life, he struggles to restore order to an increasingly insane situation. Playing off of Turturro who is superb as the crazed, Gothic Shooter, Johnny Depp shines in his role with a quirky, brilliant performance.

Finding Neverland
Sweetness that doesn't turn saccharine is hard to find these days; Finding Neverland hits the mark. Much credit is due to the actors: Johnny Depp applies his genius for sly whimsy in his portrayal of playwright J. M. Barrie, who finds inspiration for his greatest creation from four lively boys, the sons of widow Sylvia Llewelyn Davies (Kate Winslet, who miraculously fuses romantic yearning with common sense). Though the friendship threatens his already dwindling marriage, Barrie spends endless hours with the boys, pretending to be pirates or Indians--and gradually the elements of Peter Pan take shape in his mind. The relationship between Barrie and the Llewelyn Davies family sparks both an imagined world and a quiet rebellion against the stuffy forces of respectability, given physical form by Barrie's resentful wife (Radha Mitchell, High Art) and Sylvia's mother (Julie Christie, McCabe and Mrs. Miller). This gentle silliness could have turned to treacle, but Depp and Winslet--along with newcomer Freddie Highmore as one of the boys--keep their feet on the earth while their eyes gaze into their dreams. Also featuring a comically crusty turn from Dustin Hoffman (who appeared in another Peter Pan-themed movie, Hook) as a long-suffering theater producer.

The Pirates of The Carribean Movies
Johnny Depp plays Jack Sparrow in these films and there is no doubt that these popular movies would not have been the same if someone else had played this role. This is the peak of his career in the sense that he’s able to bring all of the experience he gained in the past to the character and to create someone who is entertaining and interesting and unique for viewers to watch across an entire series of movies.
Depp is great at playing these really wild characters in different films. That’s what his forte is. For that reason I’m really looking forward to the 2010 release of Tim Burton’s take on Alice in Wonderland in which Depp plays The Mad Hatter. That is certainly going to be an interesting one to watch! expires on Sep 10, 2010

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
It is really difficult to conceive of a remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that could do the original movie justice. The characters in that film were just too unique. However, if anyone could pull off playing a new Willy Wonka it was Johnny Depp. He is the kind of strong actor who is able to really bring his own voice and persona to any part even one that is so well-known as being played by another character. The film didn’t quite stand up to the quality of the original but Depp did a good job with his role in it.

From Hell
Depp plays Inspector Fred Abberline. Though heartily addicted to opium he has a knack for analyzing evidence and is guided by visions. In trying to track down the killer who is viciously murdering a group of prostitutes one by one, he meets up with Mary Kelly (Heather Graham), the only cherubic non- haggard whore in the bunch who has great penmanship and a heart of gold. A not so convincing love story between Graham and Depp is more implausible than the premise that the killings occur to protect the English royal family.

Donnie Brasco
This movie is based on a true story about Joe Pistone, an FBI agent who went undercover to infiltrate the mob. Depp plays Pistone wonderfully, and Al Pacino does some fine work here too. The film portrays mobsters in a different light than most other Hollywood fare. They're far from glamorous; Pacino's character Lefty has cancer and is just a "spoke in the wheel." An excellent film.

Edward Scissorhands
This is Depp's first film with Tim Burton, and it is an absolutely wonderful film. Depp plays Edward Scissorhands, who was created by an old inventor (Vincent Price) who died suddenly, leaving Edward with scissors in place of hands. This is a seemingly sweet film that ends up showing the cruelness of society towards those who are different. This is a beautiful film that is one of the best movies I've ever seen.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape
The movie shows the everyday life of Gilbert (played by Depp), and as we begin to care for the people in the film, we learn a little bit about ourselves. Depp is fantastic, but Leonardo DiCaprio is better in this movie as Gilbert’s mentally retarded younger brother, Arnie (he was nominated for an Academy Award for this film). I saw What’s Eating Gilbert Grape at least six years ago, and I still love it today and would highly recommend it to anyone. This is definitely a movie to put on your “to rent” list.
